Offering covid-19 safe virtual mediation
Offering covid-19 safe virtual mediation
For the past 30 years as a practising litigation lawyer, one constant theme expressed by both personal and business clients has been the need to have litigation over and done with - the desire to have their lives back: to get back to earning money and creating wealth; to get back to a focus on family and personal relationships; to get back to sleeping through the night. Litigation takes an incredible personal and financial toll and can drag on endlessly at enormous expense. An effective mediation between parties acting in good faith can bring all that to an end – often in just one day
As a mediator, my focus is on bringing a cost effective and timely resolution to conflict. The best outcome to any dispute is one that everyone can agree to.
Virtual mediations are available by videoconference or teleconference, as the parties require
Alan Butcher brings to the table 30 years of experience in a wide variety of civil and commercial litigation. After spending 20 years with one of Canada’s largest law firms (15 years in Toronto; 5 years in Hamilton), Alan started his own firm ten years ago and continues that practice. He is knowledgeable and experienced in a wide range of matters, including complex commercial litigation, shareholder disputes, professional liability, breach of contract cases, defamation, disputes over real and personal property and related valuations.
Alan’s training and experience in alternative dispute resolution began in law school and continued as part of his professional development on multiple occasions, including obtaining a certificate in Commercial Mediation.
Appointed to the Assessment Review Board (Ontario) in March of 2018 for a 2 year term, Alan was provided with extensive up to date training in alternative dispute resolution, and gained valuable experience as a hearing officer in the conduct of both virtual and in person settlement conferences. Alan now brings this training and experience in the techniques of both in person and virtual multi-party mediations to his private mediation practice.
